SOL spends “academic break” for relief ops  

Tarlac State University-School of Law (SOL) sent four truckloads of relief goods to Cagayan Valley and Bicol after launching an “academic break for a cause” for flood victims during the onslaught of super typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.  
 
According to Atty. Jose I. Dela Rama Jr., SOL dean, 3,000 food packs were prepared by law students who joined the relief operations during their academic break. Three military trucks of relief goods were sent to the provinces of Isabela and Cagayan while the other truck was sent to the residents in Naga City in Bicol.  

“Naisipan ko na even before the call for academic break, gusto ko maituro sa students ang social responsibility sa mga nangangailangan ng tulong tulad ng mga nasalanta ng bagyo. May clamor na mag academic break but inisip ko [na] tumulong na lang ang mga students na mag empake ng relief goods na umabot sa halos apat [na] military trucks,” Dean Dela Rama said in an interview.  

Dean Dela Rama also said they partnered with Handa and Shelter for Mankind foundations for their donations in Bicol and with Redjuice to provide the other food packs. 

“In that way, we can teach our students to be of service to our country and immerse them in social responsibility and corporate governance," he added. 

Aside from in-kind donations, they also raised 688,351.15 pesos from their online donation drive last November 17-21, 2020 which was also used to buy goods. 

Around 100 students and volunteers helped in preparing the donations which were coordinated with the Philippine Army and Philippine Air Force for the shipment to the affected provinces. [Maria Adelaida Calayag]
