Admission and Retention Policies

A. Admission Policies

1. New College Freshmen Students

a. Students shall be accepted regardless of age, sex, nationality, religious beliefs                                          

socio economic status or political affiliations.

b. Students must have graduated from recognized secondary schools.

c. Students must meet all the prescibed admission requirements of TSU.                                           

  • Must qualify in the TSU College Admission Test.                                          
  • Must have complete and valid credentials (Form 138, Certificate of Good Moral                                 
  • Health Examination Certificate, and Copy of Authenticated Birth Certficate)                                  
  • Students must qualify in the average grade requirement (GWA) set by TSU or by CHED.
  • Must qualify in the inetrview.                                               
  • Students must qualify in the Physical or Health Examination.                                

d. Students must pledge to abide by and comply with all the rules and regulations of the TSU.

e. New/Beginning Freshmen students are not accepted during the Second Semester or Summer.

f. Students must not have enrolled in any academic or college subject/s prior to their                                 

enrollment as beginning freshmen, otherwise they shall be classified as transferees.

g. Students enrolled in vocational courses or those not leading to a degree program are admitted as beginning freshmen.

 

2. Secondary Freshmen Students

a. Students shall be accepted regardless of age, nationality, religious beliefs or political affiliations        

b. Students must be elementary graduates from government recognized schools.                                         

c. Students must meet all the prescribed admission requirements of the University                                     

  • Must qualify in the TSU Secondary Admission Test.                                    
  • Must present the original copy of Form 138 (Report Card)                                        
  • Must present a certificate of good character.                                 
  • Must present a health examination certificate                                             
  • Must present a Copy of NSO birth certificate                                  

d. Students must pledge to abide by and comply with all the rules and regulations of the University               

e. For students enrolling in the Math Science curriculum, the grade point average (GPA) is 85 or above in mathematics and science subjects.                                      

f. For students enrolling in the NSEC-SEDP, the GPA is 80 or better.

 

3. Transferees

a. Must have complete and valid credentials.                                   

b. Must meet all the prescribed admission requirements of the Universityand the concerned College.                  

  • Qualifying Test for Transferees                                             
  • Average grade requirement (GWA)                                    
  • Copy of grades signed by the Registrar or OTR for reference purposes.                                              
  • Certificate of Transfer Credential                                         
  • Interview                                        
  • Physical or Health Examination                                             
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character                                   
  • Copy of NSO birth Certificate                                

c. Must not have any outstanding failure in any academic subjects                                         

d. Must not have any outstanding failure in any non academic subject (including NSTP)                                              

e. Only students who have enrolled in any course leading to a degree program are admitted as transferees.      

f. Admission shall be on probation basis during the first sem of stay in the University or until such time as they shall have validated/repeated in accordance with the University policies all the subjects taken outside the TSU which are required for their course.                                      

g. Official Transcript of Record (OTR) shall be submitted prior to admission for the following semester otherwise enrollment will not be allowed.

h. Transferees from SUC institutions shall be admitted and treated as regular students in accordance with the existing policies of the University.

i. Must pledge to abide by and comply with all the rules and regulations of the TSU.                                    

j. Admission of transferees is subject to availability of slot.

 

4. Foreign Students                                                                                    

a. Must have complete and valid credentials.                                   

b. Must meet all the prescribed admission requirements of the University and the course apllied for:            

  • University Admission Test                                       
  • Certificate of Completion of a Secondary Curriculum                                 
  • Original Transcript of Record                                  
  • Personal Data                                
  • Affidavit of Support                                    
  • Allien Certificate of Registration (ACR)                                             
  • Result of TOEFL                                             
  • Student Visa                                  
  • Security Clearance from his/her Embassy                                         
  • Resident Guarantor of his/her character                                           

c. Must meet all the prescribed requirement by the DFA and BI.                                             

d. Must submit Certification of Proficiency in English based on TOEFL score (for non native speakers of English)

e. A foreing student may be admitted based on availability of slot of the course applied for.

f. Admission of foreign student should be limited to special courses.

 

5. Graduate Studies                                                                               

a. Students are required to take the qualifying examination (i.e National Grade Record Examination issued by the CHED) in the master's degree program and doctoral program administered by the Admission Committee headed by the Dean and followed by an appropriate interview before being admitted in any graduate program.

b. For admission to the master's degree program, only students who graduated baccalaureate level with at least an average rating of "2" or equivalent shall be deemed eligible for admission.

c. For admission to the doctoral level only those students who are holders of master's degree with at least an average rating of "1.75" or equivalent shall be eligible for admission.

d. Student whose average rating is below the requirement may be provisionally admitted to a non degree status, and after the successful completion of at least 18 academic units with an average rating of 2.0 in the master's degree program and of at least academic units with an average rating of 1.5 in the doctoral degree program shall elevated to a regular status subject to the approval of the dean.

e. Applicants for admission to the master's degree program and doctoral degree program shall be required to have the proper and corresponding undergraduate or equivalent course at the graduate level and graduate academic background respectively to qualify for admission. The satisfactory completion of 18 academic units in the former and 21 academic units in the latter shall be required for admission

f. Aplicants for admission must present an original copy of the official transcript of record or transfer credentials.

g. They must present a present a permit to study if they are working students.

 

6. Cross Enrollees                                                                                     

a. Cross enrollees from other institutions must present a cross registration permit from mother institution.

b. Availability of slot of the subject/s to be enrolled

c. Must meet all the prescribed admission requirements:                                          

  • Certificate of Good Moral Character                                      
  • Physical or Health examination

 

7. Special Students

a. Sign an agreement in which he/ she waives the right to receive and to demand credits for the work done.

b. Their admission shall be approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, University Registrar upon recommendation of the Dean of the College concerned.

 

8. College of Law Students.                                           

a. Must be a graduate of any Bachelors degree.                                               

b. Completed the following minimum numbers of units in the Bachelors degree                                            

  •  English (18 units)            
  •  Social Sciences (18 units)            
  •  Mathematics (6 units)  

c. Student must passed the Law Admission Test composed of written examination and interview

d. Must submit the  following requirements:                                    

  • Aplication form                               
  • NSO Authenticated Birth Certificate                      
  • Authenticated NSO Marriage Certificate (for female married student)                 
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character                      
  • College Transcript of Records                   
  • 3 copies of ID picture 2 x 2                          
  • Psychological Test Result                            
  • Health examination certificate                
  • Official Receipt of Testing Fee                 
  • Permit to study (for working students)                

e. Two reference letter in sealed envelope from previous professor/ advisers/ or employers or supervisor

f. Recommendation by the committee on students’ admission and approval by the dean.

 

9. Second Coursers                                     

a. Must have complete and valid credentials.

b. Must meet all the prescribed admission requirements of the University / College and the course applied for:                                               

  • Approved Application for Admission for Second Courser /Professional Education Units  
  • Transfer Credentials                     
  • Original Transcript of Records                   
  • Authenticated NSO Birth Certificate                      
  •  Photocopy of Authenticated NSO Marriage Certificate (for female married student)                    
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character                      
  • Physical or Health examination certificate                         
  • 2 pcs. 2x2 colored pictures (taken within the last six months)

 

10. Shifters                                                                                  

a. Shifters are automatically admitted in the College / Institute / Department where they would like to shift in course.

b. Shifting of course must obtain the release approval of the Dean of the original course and the acceptance of the Dean of the new course.

c.  Shifting of course is based on the scholastic standing of the students.

d. Students who are shifting from one course to another must obtained the recommendation of the  Guidance Counselor.

e.  Must meet all the prescribed admission requirements:                                        

  • Copy of Report of Grades                                        
  • Counselor’s Report from Guidance Office                                       
  • Application for Shifting

11. Returnees                                                                               

a. A student must apply for return to the University.

b. A copy of the students evaluation record secured at the OUR must be attached to the Application Form for Returning Student.

 

B. Retention Policies                                                                          

a. Evaluation of student records for purposes of retention is guided by the following standards.            

b. Any student who has received two (2) successive warnings shall be placed to ROBATION.                                     

c. Probation status of a student may be lifted upon passing all the subjects carrie during the term he is probation.                                               

d. Any students under probation who gain fails in 50% or more of the total number in academic units enrolled will be DISMISSED from the College/University.                                             

e. Any student dropped from one college/ school shall not be admitted to another course in TSU, unless in the opinion of the Dean his aptitude and interest may qualify him to another field of study, in which case, he may be allowed in the appropriate course.                                          

f. Permanent disqualification does not apply to cases, where on recommendation of the faculty concerned, he certifies that the grade  of 5.0 is due to unauthorized dropping of the student and not to poor scholarship.
