TSU digitally celebrates 120th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary

Date Posted: 10/01/2020

Despite the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Tarlac State University joined the Philippine Civil Service Commission in celebrating its 120th anniversary for the whole month of September through the conduct of online activities.

Bearing the theme "Philippine Civil Service @120: Public Sector in the Age of Digital Transformation, this years celebration emphasizes the use of digital technology in the context of emergency situations while pursuing efficient public service delivery in the Philippine government.

This is to highlight emerging technologies that push modernization and innovation in public service. The theme also captures the changes we have experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than ever, we have to remain resilient, responsive, and creative delivering our services and serving the Filipino people,” CSC Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala said in a video message during the closing program of the university’s celebration.

TSU’s Digital Celebration

The TSU Human Resource Development and Management Office (HRDMO) led the four-week university-wide celebration with an opening program held during the new normal flag raising ceremony last September 1, 2020 at the TSU Main Campus.

Part of the kickoff is the breakfast for ‘Juan-hundred and twenty” which was done on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 20 employees per campus on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Other activities include a call for the simultaneous display of PCS logo design on Facebook; a digital photo collage (montage) art contest that encapsulates the theme; and the employee dedication e-booth, where participants were asked to post a throwback picture with colleagues at TSU.

Moreover, on September 25, 2020, the HRDMO hosted a free webinar via Zoom entitled “Mental Health in the Workplace” featuring Mr. Jeremiah Paul C. Silvestre, RPm as the resource speaker.

The webinar, with over 90 attendees, was well received evidenced by the dynamic participation in the chat box.

Mr. Silvestre concluded his talk with an open forum entertaining questions concerning mental health.

Awards and Appreciation

On September 29, the HRDMO wrapped up the event with an online awards ceremony over Zoom

Ten winners of the PCS logo display were drawn by  Dr. Niño Corpuz, Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance, through lots. Each winner received a P100 worth of load and a gift certificate.

Meanwhile, first place winners of the Employee Dedication E-booth and Digital Photo Collage are Ms. Jessica Mae Suba (OUP) and Ms. Ma. Teresa Madriaga (OPA). They were both awarded with P200 and P500 worth of load plus gift certificates, respectively.

Ms. Madriaga’s winning photo collage was submitted as the official entry of the university in the Digital Photo Collage (Montage) Art Contest of the CSC and Council of Personnel Office (CPO) Tarlac where it also won 1st place against other government agencies across the province on September 30, 2020.

TSU personnel who helped during the university’s call to cushion the impact of the pandemic in the province were also recognized during the closing ceremonies.

A special recognition was given to Mr. Mark Anthony Perez (MISO) for his altruistic deeds and humanitarian gesture through his viral “free laptop repair” campaign on social media.

For the past month, Mr. Perez has been asking for used gadgets and devices, repairs those which are defective, and gives them to students in need of gadgets for online classes

Aside from these, the HRDMO also took this opportunity to recognize once again the loyalty service awardees of 2019 to present them with their much-awaited Tokens of Appreciation for rendering 10, 15, 35, and 40 years of service to the university.
