Microsoft provides free training to TSU educators  

Tarlac State University welcomed the month of June with a remote learning training session sponsored by Microsoft, which was attended by some 200 faculty members.

This online capacity building, held on June 1, 2020, is part of the university’s efforts to prepare its teaching workforce for the “new normal” mode of instruction.

The training delivered to TSU via Line Learning and Development Solutions is part of Microsoft’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic which aims to prepare education institutions for remote learning.

It was held using the Microsoft Teams’ video conferencing feature.

The first part was about staying connected with remote learning through Microsoft Teams and Office 365 where participants were equipped with concepts and terminologies on remote and online learning, and synchronous and asynchronous learning.

Also tackled during the session are tips on learning and connecting with students online and establishing routines and creating workspaces that foster learning.

Practical tips were shared such as checking of attendance online, recording sessions, giving “breaks” to students during synchronous classes, creating “mini polls” to monitor the students’ wellbeing, and engaging students through interactive quizzes.

Participants received digital copies of certificates of course completion using a given code which were immediately accessed at the end of the training.

The second session, which focuses on building stronger student-teacher connections in a remote learning environment, will be held on June 2 at 9:00AM, still via Microsoft Teams.

TSU has been utilizing Office 365 since its procurement in September 2017 where every student, faculty, and personnel is given full access to Microsoft applications for learning, teaching, and working using a TSU-generated email address.
