TSU hosts 2nd consecutive SCUAA III Olympics
Following the successful hosting of the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association Region III (SCUAA III) Olympics in 2018, Tarlac State University took the challenge of hosting the SCUAA III 2019 Olympics with the Local Government of Capas on February 2-8, 2020.
The LGU Capas led by Mayor Reynaldo Catacutan worked closely with TSU in the hosting preparations from the venues of the sporting events to the billeting schools for the 13 state universities and colleges (SUCs) of Region III.
The annual regional sporting event, themed “Trust, Strength, Unity,” kicked off on February 2 at the Athletics Stadium of the New Clark City in Barangay Aranguren, Capas, Tarlac.
Athletes of the 13 Region III SUCs paraded with their respective presidents, university officials, and coaches during the opening ceremonies.
Mr. Vivencio “Vince” Dizon, President and CEO of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), served as the SCUAA III 2019 guest of honor and speaker.
Local leaders from the Tarlac Province and units of the Philippine Army also showed their support in the said event.
The 18 sporting events will be played starting on February 3 in Capas, Tarlac except for the lawn tennis event which will be held in San Sebastian Tennis Court in Tarlac City.
The closing ceremonies is scheduled on February 8, 2:00 PM, at the Grandstand of the Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Army in Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.
In December 2018, the SCUAA III Olympics was hosted by TSU in partnership with the City Government of Tarlac for the sporting venues and billeting and Municipal Government of San Jose for the opening program at the Tarlac Recreational Park.
The SCUAA III 2019 Olympics was originally scheduled in December 2019. However, the SCUAA III Executive Board and Board of Management opted to move the event to give way to the Philippines’ hosting of the 2019 SEA Games where the New Clark City was one of the venues.
