Coffee and Collaboration: Strengthening Tarlac’s Business Industry

               Gearing towards a greater involvement with industries in the province of Tarlac, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension Services organized a forum entitiled Coffee and Collaboration: Academe and Industry Partnership Building, held at the RED Center, Villa Lucinda Campus, TSU on the 21st of March 2017.

                The event aims to strengthen the bond between TSU and business industries in the province. The concerns the activity sought to be addressed were the following:

  • Machine Design and Fabrication      
  • Facility Design and Layout
  • Productivity Measure ( i.e. time and motion study; forecasting etc)
  • Quality Assurance and Product Development
  • Product Brochures other Marketing Portfolio
  • Accounting / Business Tax /Bookkeeping/Product Costing
  • Computerized System / Directory ; POS
  • FDA documentation and Product Registration
  • Trademark Registration
  • New Product Designs
  • Packaging and Labeling
  • Capability Building for Personnel
  • Business Management /Operation
  • Branding and Marketing

                In extending the services to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the OVPRES, spearheaded by Dr. Lea B. Milan (Head of Industry Development Extension Services) invited experienced faculty specialists to attend to the concerns of different businessmen. Tapped faculties were from College of Engineering, College of Architecture and Fine Arts, College of Business and Accountancy and College of Science.

                From the consultation, several extension and research projects were initially formulated by the faculty, ranging from bookkeeping services and brand imaging to fabrication of facilities.

                A total of 20 Memoranda of Understanding were forged between the MSME owners and the university to ensure the smooth flow of partnership. The partnerships are expected to provide a two-way learning among the faculty and the concerned owners.
