CHED Commissioner holds IGP forum
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Hon. Ruperto Sanggalang was here at the university recently to conduct a forum on Income Generating Projects (IGP).
Dr. Sanggalang said that state colleges and universities under CHED must focus their attention on Research and Extension. Dr. Sanggalang who is also chairman of the Board of Regents of the university said that universities should be more visible in providing livelihood and other opportunities in their community.
According to the CHED study on Extension Outputs, there are only 1,850 adoptors who set up profitable businesses in the past three years, ”here lies the challenge,” said Dr. Sanggalang. The data is based on the reports of 32 state universities and colleges which reflect Extension Outputs from 2006 to 2015.
Since TSU is not an agricultural university unlike most of its counter parts in the region, majority of which are agriculture-base, it should strive to promote new technologies which could assist in the development of industries in the province.
Sanggalang also added that there are several opportunities for the university to create linkages with industries, national government agencies and local government units.
Aside from the linkages universities are encouraged to promote programs that can help set-up techno-demo projects such as the Asset Inventory Management for SUC’s (AIMS), National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System (NAFES) and Educated Marginalized Entrepreneur Resource Generation (EMERGE).
The forum was held at the Main AVR and attended by TSU key officials, directors and deans. (DL Simbol / Photos by Jet Ulanday)
