TSU Competes in 2014 SUC Olympics

Tarlac State University recently competed in the 2014 Annual SUC Olympics held at the Tarlac College of Agriculture (TCA) Sports Complex in Camiling Tarlac, from December 15 to 21, 2014. The TSU contingent was composed of 237 athletes and officials, headed by no less than TSU President, Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari. The athletes competed in different sports events which included archery, athletics, arnis, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, futsal, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, beach volleyball, Mr. and Miss SUC, and Dance Sport.

Gracing the annual sports event as Guest of Honor and Speaker was Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, who urged the athletes from the different SUCs to uphold the tradition of true sportsmanship and camaraderie in competition.

Among the participating SUCs were Aurora State  College of Technology (ASCOT), Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC), Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), Bulacan State University (BulSU), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC), Philippine Merchant  Marine Academy (PMMA),Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA), Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU), and Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU).

TCA President, Dr. Max Guillermo welcomed the delegates at the TCA Grandstand after a colorful parade of athletes together with their respective officials. Tarlac State University Sports Director Norberto Jacinto led the University’s sports delegation, while TSU Office of Public Affairs and Information Office Director Winifredo L. Luis provided the delegation introduction during the parade. Also present were Dr. Armee N. Rosel, TSU VP for Student Affairs, Dr. Louela F. Ona, and TSU VP for Research, Production & Development, and Dr. Lolita V. Sicat, VP for Academic Affairs.

The TSU delegation brought home a total medal tally of 8 golds, 57 silvers and 48 bronzes for a respectable 6th place finish overall.
