TSU celebrates 108th Foundation Celebration and Silver Anniversary
The Tarlac State University celebrated its 108th foundation and Silver Anniversary from December 1 to 6, 2014 with the theme, “Rebuilding the University towards Globalization and ASEAN Integration”. The celebration is the first under the administration of new TSU President, Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, who is a strong advocate of globalizing and raising the standards of the University.
The celebration commemorated the founding of the institution in 1906, and its transformation into a State University in 1989.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the International Folklore Festival – a festival of cultural dances showcased by the participating countries like Thailand, Israel, Bulgaria, South Korea and host, Philippines, represented by the TSU Performing Arts Dance Troupe under the tutelage of Director Marcelino “Mar” Balanquit. Aside from the students, faculty and personnel of the University, the festival also attracted audiences form the city and the community as well.
Also standing out as a main attraction of the festivities is the annual Street Dance parade and showdown, which featured dances from the various colleges of the University, and culminating in the Search for 2014 Festival King and Queen of TSU.
The Foundation week also featured the TSU Annual Service Awards. TSU personnel and faculty were honored for their dedicated years of service to the University. Among the awardees were faculty and personnel who have served 30 years, 25 years, 20 years, 15 years, and 10 years of service. The awardees were honored and treated to an evening of songs and nostalgia, which greatly moved the crowd and capped a wonderful evening of celebration.
Other activities and events during the 5 day festivity included student activities like the opening of booths and exhibits, the staging of musical programs, cultural and academic competitions, the annual royal cook-fest featuring various colleges and offices, games and variety shows. The Foundation celebration and Silver Anniversary started off with a Mass at the TSU gym attended by officials, faculty, personnel and students. After the Mass, TSU president Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari officially opened the activities.
